Water Opal Ring Redesign in 18K Yellow Gold with Diamonds Preserved Inside the Band

One day, we received a LINE message from K, a long-time acquaintance in Miyoshi.

“Your shop also redesigns jewelry, right? Would you be able to handle something a little unusual?”

We replied, “Of course. We would be happy to discuss your requirements and propose a suitable approach.”

K then introduced us to N, the client who commissioned this piece, and we continued discussing the project via LINE.

N had two pieces of jewelry she wanted to bring in for the redesign, shown here.

The water opal ring had belonged to her parents when they were younger.

The cross necklace was a deeply personal piece that had been placed beside her son following a tragic accident.

Although the stones in the cross were no longer suitable for resetting in their original form, N wanted to preserve them in a way that would allow her to keep them close. That wish became the starting point for this ring.

The first priority was to create a design that could be worn comfortably every day. We also needed to incorporate the stones from the necklace securely, so that N could wear the ring without concern.

To show the water opal at its best, we chose a protective bezel setting with an opening beneath the stone to allow light to enter.

The diamonds along both sides of the ring were each secured with four prongs. The prongs were positioned slightly below the surrounding metal rails to help prevent them from catching on clothing.

We also designed the compartment for the crushed diamonds so that the culets of the diamonds set above would not protrude into the space below.

These details were carefully incorporated into the final design.

The crushed diamonds from the cross necklace were sealed inside the band. Two additional diamonds brought in by the client were set inside the ring, one on each side of the sealed compartment.

We have since heard that N wears the ring regularly, which makes us very happy.
